The HVAC industry is undergoing a major shift in 2025 with the transition to A2L refrigerants and the phasedown of R-410A.
M&S Air Conditioning is here to help homeowners in Palm Beach, Broward, and surrounding areas navigate these changes.
Key Refrigerant Changes
The EPA’s new regulations require all new air conditioning systems and heat pumps to use A2L refrigerants instead of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) like R-410A. While this impacts new systems, existing R-410A units can still be serviced and repaired as long as replacement parts are available.
What Homeowners Need to Know
Existing Systems: If you have an R-410A unit, you don’t need to replace it immediately. Routine maintenance and repairs will remain possible for years.
System Lifespan: HVAC units typically last 15–20 years with proper care. ENERGY STAR® suggests planning for replacement after 10–12 years to take advantage of energy-efficient models.
Cost Considerations: As R-410A production decreases, repair costs may rise. New A2L-compliant systems will have higher upfront costs but offer greater energy efficiency.
